Known for her ability to read fit through fabric behavior, balance, and anatomy, Krystal approaches fit as both a technical and human problem. “If a garment looks good on a hanger but fails on the body, you’ve already lost the customer. I'm Ali, and I came up with the idea of Creative Bobbin when so many people were asking me how I learnt to make dresses.
I've been working in the fashion industry my whole career, I was lucky enough to know from an early age what I loved doing. I learnt my first skills off my mum, as she had also been sewing her whole career, then in 1992 I went to college to study fashion and textiles.
In 1998 I first worked in New York, where I learnt a lot, very quickly! After 4 years I headed to London where I worked for big retailers for 5 years.
In 2007 I entered the bridal market, almost by accident, making bespoke dresses, which I still do now, and still love! I keep getting told I make it look easy, so I thought I'd share how easy it can be.....

I’m Karen of Made by KarenM Sewing Patterns! I sell PDF and physical sewing patterns, and design and sew formal wear. I’m self-taught and cater to skill levels from beginner to expert. I began to sew for others in 2014 and learned through YouTube, trial, and error. As a new designer, and not being able to charge as much as more established designers, I often looked for ways to save money on fabric to maximize profits. In order to stop re-inventing the wheel for every new client, I decided to start creating patterns I could reuse, and launched my first sewing pattern, the 4 Yard Mermaid Gown with Godets in 2019. Originally known as KGc Sewing Patterns, I rebranded in 2022 to KarenM Sewing Patterns. Since founding, through mostly organic social media marketing, the brand has reached over 11,000 sales, and over 1,200 reviews with a 4.9 star average rating.

Lorraine Henry is a professional dressmaker/teacher with more than 40 years of experience. I make patterns for anatomical tailor’s dress forms.
I design and sew for my own enjoyment. Over the years, my hobby has turned into a passion and a business I truly love.
Although my main profession and career were related to financial management, I have continued studying pattern making and sewing in parallel for the past 10 years.
The combination of several pattern-making methods, a love for geometry, and modern CAD software allows me to design virtually any type of garment.
I believe it is an eco-friendly choice to give a second life to clothing that is no longer being used.
At the beginning of my journey in garment creation, I didn’t need a dress form. But as soon as I started sewing evening and wedding dresses, I realized I absolutely needed a tailor’s dress form. Of course, a high-quality mannequin could have been purchased, but at that time in Ukraine it cost as much as an “airplane wing.”
So the idea emerged to create a mannequin from accessible, affordable, and widely available materials. That’s how BetterSew mannequins were born and I use them myself and am very satisfied with them.
